Exec named senior VP, business affairs

Bonnie Hammer’s cable entertainment and cable studios group at NBCUniversal is upping Philip Matthys to senior VP, business affairs, giving Matthys day-to-day biz affairs oversight for USA, Syfy and Universal Cable Prods.

Beth Roberts used to handle those responsibilities, but she was promoted to chief operating officer of UCP and exec VP of business affairs within the group earlier this month. Matthys will continue to report to Roberts.”Philip is an integral member of the business affairs team,” Roberts said in a release. “He has made immeasurable contributions as a talented negotiator as USA, Syfy and UCP continue to grow.”

Matthys has been at NBCU since 2003, when he joined the Peacock as counsel, legal affairs, for NBC Entertainment. He moved to the cable entertainment division in 2007.

The exec has worked as a veep in the cable entertainment group since 2007, overseeing business affairs for USA hits “Psych” and “In Plain Sight,” as well as the net’s upcoming “Necessary Roughness,” plus Syfy’s long-running sci-fi dramedy “Eureka,” as well as that net’s “Being Human” and “Haven.”
