NYWIFT salute Designing Women

What does Glenn Close think of when she hears the words Designing Women?

“The TV series, I guess,” Close said with a laugh as she prepared to salute the honorees at Monday night’s New York Women in Film & Television 12th annual salute to Designing Women.

Held at the Herald Square Macy’s auditorium, the Variety-sponsored event gave an Ensemble Award to the costume, make-up and hair design team of “Nurse Jackie,” presented by series regular Anna Deavere Smith.

Also honored were Close’s “Damages” hairstylist Diana Sikes, “Mad Men” costume designer Janie Bryant and “Brokeback Mountain” makeup artist Linda Melazzo.

“Brokeback” scribe Diana Ossana flew in from Arizona to honor Melazzo, who also aged Kate Winslet for “The Reader” and the recent “Mildred Pierce” roles.

Cara Buono of “Mad Men” praised Bryant for her devotion to 1960s authenticity, “It’s not underwear, it’s foundation,” she said of “the girdle, the hose, the pointy bras.”
