Anchor Bay Films has snapped up North American distribution of the documentary “Corman’s World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel” and plans a theatrical release for late summer or early fall.

Produced by Far Hills Pictures’ Stone Douglass, “Rebel” was an official selection at Sundance and will have its international premiere May 18, 2011 at the Cannes Film Festival. Corman and his wife Julie are expected to attend.

Bill Clark, president of Anchor Bay Entertainment, made the announcement Thursday.

The docu tracks the rise of the prolific writer-director producer, who self-financed hundreds of low-budget pictures and helped launch the careers of Jack Nicholson, Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola and James Cameron. The film also shows the rise of the Corman renaissance with interviews with filmmakers including Quentin Tarantino, Paul W.S. Anderson and Eli Roth; and reality-based footage following Corman in the present day.

The deal was negotiated by Bill Clark and Kevin Kasha for Anchor Bay Films and by Mark Ankner of WME Global for Far Hills Pictures. Irwin Rappaport reps Far Hills Pictures for sales legal.
