Nomination Reaction: Simon Beaufoy

Best Adapted Screenplay, '127 Hours'

Simon Beaufoy, who co-adapted the screenplay for “127 Hours” with helmer Danny Boyle, says auds didn’t have to have been trapped under a rock to appreciate the emotional intensity of the Aron Ralston story.

“Rather than just telling a survival story — which is really what a docu would be — we wanted to tell a story that would affect every single person in the cinema, whether they’ve had a rock trapped on them or not … and that’s what fiction can do. It moves beyond the particular event, when it’s working at its best, and it touches everbody.”
