Nomination Reaction: Paul Franklin

Best visual effects, 'Inception

Paul Franklin, VFX supervisor for “Inception,” says bringing helmer Christopher Nolan’s mindbending dreamscape to life was integral to constructing the film’s narrative.

“The big difference was that visual effects were very much in the foreground in developing the story and creating these surreal moments compared to the ‘Batman’ movies, where all of those effects are in the background … but he also wanted to bring the type of photorealism that we saw in the ‘Batman’ films as well.”
