Snoop Dogg scoops BMI Icon award

BMI Urban Awards to feature musical tribute

After 20 years in the music industry, rapper Snoop Dogg will be honored as a BMI Icon at the 2011 BMI Urban Awards.

Icon Award is given to a figure in the music industry who has influenced fellow musicians both within and beyond their own genre. Past recipients include James Brown, the Bee Gees and Carlos Santana.

This year’s award show will feature an all-star musical tribute to Snoop Dogg.

The BMI Urban Awards will take place on August 26 at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood.
