Continuing the ongoing exec exchange between Sony and Universal Music Group labels, former Jive Records exec Peter Thea will join UMG as exec VP of Universal Republic and Island Def Jam.

Based in New York, Thea will report to current Republic/IDJ chairman-CEO Barry Weiss, under whom he worked at Jive. A former recording engineer-turned-entertainment lawyer, Thea joined Jive in 1999 as senior VP, later moving up to exec VP in the company. Jive was consolidated into RCA Records last month.

In a statement, Thea said: “I am thrilled to be working with Barry again. Barry has energized the company with a vision that fosters a great creative environment for real talent to flourish.”
