New Liam Neeson pic bests 'Number 4'

Friday moviegoers wanted to explore the “Unknown.”

The new Warner Bros. pic starring Liam Neeson grabbed the top spot on Friday with about $6.7 million in 3,043 runs. ‘Unknown’ was chased by DreamWorks’ “I Am Number 4.” The new pic, which was released by Disney through its Touchstone label, amassed about $6.2 million in 3,154 engagements. Sony’s rom-com “Just Go With It” collected about $5.2 million in 3,548 runs on its second Friday. Martin Lawrence’s latest installment of his “Big Momma” series, “Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son,” collected about $4.8 in 3,154 engagements.

Disney’s animated 3D pic “Gnomeo and Juliet” rounded out the top five with about $4.3 million in 3,014 engagements.

Popstar Justin Bieber’s 3D docu from Paramount earned about $3.7 million in 3,118 runs, while “The King’s Speech” collected about $1.5 million in 2,086 engagements. Sony’s “The Roommate” earned about $1.2 million in 2,160 runs. Focus Features’ “The Eagle” grabbed about $999,000 in 2,296 runs.

Paramount rounded out the top 10 with “No Strings Attached,” which earned about $904,000 in 1,966 engagements.
