‘Rango’ tops Friday B.O.

New animated film from Paramount bests 'Adjustment Bureau'

Rango,” the new animated pic from Paramount, took the top spot at Friday’s box office. The PG-rated, Johnny Depp-voiced film earned roughly $9.5 million in 3,917 runs.

Universal’s “The Adjustment Bureau,” which stars Matt Damon, trailed with about $6.7 million in 2,840 engagements. CBS’ “Beastly,” also a new release, grabbed about $3.5 million in 1,952 runs, while the Warner Bros. comedy “Hall Pass” earned about $2.7 million in 2,950 engagements.

Sony’s rom-com “Just Go With It” rounded out the top five with about $1.9 million in 2,920 runs.

Warner Bros.’ “Unknown” earned about $1.8 million in 2,913 engagements. “The King’s Speech” (2,240 runs) and Disney/Dreamworks’ “I Am Number 4” (2,903 runs) both earned about $1.6 million.

Disney’s 3D pic “Gnomeo and Juliet” collected about $1.5 million in 2,984 engagements. Relativity’s latest, “Take Me Home Tonight,” earned about $1.2 million in 2,003 runs.
