The American Theater Wing, the org that presents the Tony Awards every year with the Broadway League, has tapped Heather Hitchens as its new exec director.

She most recently served a four-year stint as exec director at the New York State Council on the Arts, which hands out grants to state creatives in a variety of disciplines. She’s also been head of Delaware Symphony Orchestra and arts org Meet the Composer.

Earlier this year, the Wing’s current exec director, Howard Sherman, announced his intention to exit the org when his current contract is up. Hitchens, the selection of the Wing’s search committee, was appointed earlier this month.

Besides the Tonys, the Wing’s activities include grant programs and education initiatives including Wing-produced radio programs and TV skeins.

Sherman departs June 30. Hitchens starts July 5.
