Aussie producer Rodney Rigby has partnered with Gotham’s Stuart Oken and Roy Furman to bring “The Addams Family” down under, with a Sydney production aiming to open in March 2013.

Oz incarnation marks the first announced international staging of the show, which will go out on a U.S. tour that launches in New Orleans in September.

The Sydney production also is supported by the New South Wales government through the program Events New South Wales, which aims to bring tourist attractions, including Broadway tuners, to the Aussie region.

“Addams Family” launched on Broadway in March 2010 with powerhouse weekly sales which continued even after the tuner earned notably downbeat notices. The musical’s million-dollar-plus frames continued for several months post-opening, although more recent weeks have seen B.O. fluctuate.

Musical often does particularly well in weeks when large numbers of tourists are in town. So far, the Main Stem incarnation has grossed nearly $65 million.

Rigby has helped bring Main Stem fare including “Jersey Boys” and “Rock of Ages” down under. Oken and Furman lead the Broadway producing team of the show. According to producers, plans also are being hatched for international stagings beyond the one in Sydney.
