‘You’re Next’ sells worldwide

HanWay sells horror pic to more than 30 territories

LONDON — Toronto buzz horror pic “You’re Next” has been sold to a raft of key territories, including Icon for Blighty and Splendid for Germany.

HanWay Films, which is shopping the pic, inked more than 30 territory deals following the pic’s preem in the Toronto Midnight Madness section at the fest.

Deals also include France and Benelux (French Connection), Japan (Asmik Ace), CIS (Volga Film Trade), Latin America (Sun Distribution) and Australia (Icon).

The announcement comes after the pic was snapped up last week by Lionsgate for U.S. and Canadian rights.

Adam Wingard directs the low-budget pic penned by Simon Barrett, which sees a family come under a deadly attack during a family reunion getaway.

Sharmi Vinson, Joe Swanberg, A.J. Bowen, Nicholas Tucci and Barbara Crampton star, while Snoot Entertainment’s Keith Calder and Jessica Wu produce, alongside Barrett and Kim Sherman.

“Our distributors saw the amazing audience reaction and critical acclaim in Toronto and the mainstream crossover potential,” said HanWay Films’ managing director Thorsten Schumacher. “We consequently sold the film out the same weekend it premiered.”

Pic reunites the cast from Wingard and Barrett’s serial-killer thriller “A Horrible Way to Die,” which screen at last year’s Toronto Film Festival.

Wingard is managed by Generate’s Jeremy Platt.
