Working Title backs Kormakur’s ‘Vikingr’

British shingle teams with Blueeyes on development

Working Title has optioned the rights to Icelandic helmer Baltasar Kormakur’s Viking epic “Vikingr.” Working Title will help develop the project with a view to producing.

The helmer, who co-wrote the screenplay with Olafur Egilsson, will also co-produce through his Blueeyes shingle. Lensing on the $60 million project is expected to begin within two years in Iceland, making it the biggest film to be produced in the country.

Based on the Icelandic sagas, actioner will center on Vikings bringing Irish slaves to Iceland.

Kormakur recently finished “Contraband,” a remake of “Reykjavik-Rotterdam” toplining Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale, with Working Title and Universal.His credits include “The Deep” (Djupid), currently in post; “Inhale,” toplining Dermot Mulroney and Diane Kruger; “Jar City” and “A Little Trip to Heaven,” starring Forest Whitaker, Julia Stiles and Jeremy Renner.
