Universal Pictures has upped Nicholas Carpou to co-prexy of distribution for the film studio.
Carpou is a member of the studio’s distribution old guard, having been with the studio for 29 years and most recently served as exec VP of distribution.
In his new gig, effective today, Carpou will become more involved with the daily management and operations of U’s distribution division and will continue overseeing Canada, the eastern U.S. and Puerto Rico. He will continue to report to U distrib prexy Nikki Rocco and work closely with Mark Gaines, exec VP/general sales manager of distribution, and Universal’s sales team.
“In this day and age, to retain good talent, you have to recognize them,” Rocco told Variety. “For many years, Nick has been a tremendous asset to our operation, shepherding some of the best and most profitable Universal films.”
Carpou began his career in film distribution in 1977 with United Artists Corp. He joined U’s San Francisco branch office in 1982 before relocating to Los Angeles in 1987.
