Sundance Selects has snagged North American rights to Goran Hugo Olsson’s “The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975,” the docu that preemed at Park City last month ahead of a screening this week at Berlin.
Writer-helmer Olsson’s pic assembles previously unseen material filmed by Swedish journalists chronicling the black power movement, including footage of Stokely Carmichael, Bobby Seal, Huey P. Newton and Angela Davis. Film incorporates commentary on the influence of the movement by creatives and activists including Harry Belafonte, Talib Kweli and Erykah Badu.
Docu is produced by Annika Rogell of Story AB and co-produced by Joslyn Barnes and Danny Glover (both with Louverture Films) and Sveriges Television.
North American distribution deal was negotiated by IFC’s Arianna Bocco with Cinetic Media’s Debra Fisher.Distributor Sundance Selects, which releases both theatrically and on VOD, is a sister division to IFC Films and IFC Midnight.
