Sundance is expanding its reach into Blighty.
Robert Redford’s Sundance Institute and sports/entertainment giant AEG Europe are joining forces to launch Sundance London, a four-day, multidisciplinary arts festival to be held at AEG’s O2 venue. Fest’s inaugural edition is slated to run April 26-29, 2012.
Strictly speaking, the event will not be just a British satellite version of the Sundance fest. While there will be screenings of American films selected from the 2012 edition of the Park City fest, Sundance London will also feature a hefty music component, with live performances by U.S. artists, as well as discussions, panels and other events. Film programming will be curated by the Sundance Institute, while AEG Europe will spearhead and promote the music portion.
Redford has been in talks to bring some sort of event to the O2 space (Variety, Oct. 8). The sprawling South East London district includes an indoor arena, a music club, a cinema and an exhibition space as well as bars and restaurants.
Sundance began taking its films on tour in 2010 with the launch of Sundance USA, screening films in different cities nationwide during the Park City fest.
