‘StreetDance’ helmers tapped for ‘Walking on Sunshine’

IM Global handles int'l sales on pop musical

Vertigo Films has tapped “StreetDance 3D’ directors Max and Dania to helm the 3D musical “Walking on Sunshine.”

IM Global has come on board as international sales agent with Vertigo distributing in the U.K. Companies made the announcement Friday at the American Film Market.

British-based Max and Dania debuted with “StreetDance 3D” and are in post-production on “StreetDance 2.” The duo’s wrapped on “What If…?,” a short film for the cultural Olympiad of the Olympic Games after being tapped to represent commercial British cinema by the BBC and Film Four.

“Walking on Sunshine” is set to hit songs of the 1980s and focuses on a mother and daughter who unwittingly fall for the same guy in sun-drenched Spain. Producers are planning a release for 2013 and have brought in John O’Connell (“Moulin Rouge”) as the musical choreographer.

Producer James Richardson said, “With the huge international success of the first ‘StreetDance’ movie, Max and Dania are currently two of the most commercial directors out of the U.K. and there is no one better placed to direct a big, commercial, fun-filled musical.”
