Spooky ‘Emergo’ sells to major territories

English language parapsychology pic nears U.S. deal

Gregoire Melin’s Kinology has rolled out major territory sales on “Emergo,” the latest genre pic from Rodrigo Cortes and Adrian Guerra, the team behind “Buried” and “Red Lights.”

Closing with topnotch distributors, “Emergo” has sold to Alliance for U.K. and Canada, Universum in Germany and Australia’s Hopscotch Films off a first screening at the American Film Market.

A U.S. sale is now in the works.

Written by Cortes, and the feature directorial debut of award-winning Catalan shorts helmer Carles Torrens, the English-language “Emergo” turns on a team of high-tech parapsychologists who investigate mysterious phenomena in an old, eerie house.

Toplining Kai Lennox and Michael O’Keefe, “Emergo” is set up at Guerra’s new Barcelona-based production label Nostromo Pictures.

Its makers acknowledge a debt to “The Blair Witch Project” and “Rec.”

But they break new ground, they say, in multiple cameras usage, ranging from HD lensing to 8mm, 16mm and 35mm used to capture the scientists’ state-of the-art technology — infra-red filming, psychophonic recordings, movement detectors and magnetic field alteration meters — plus the chilling phenomena they detect.

“Emergo” has racked up presales including Mexico (Cine Video y TV), Taiwan (Studio Solutions Group), Middle East (Gulf Film), Singapore (Cathay Keris Films), Indonesia (P.T. Rapi Films), Philippines (Pioneer Films), Argentina and Venezuela (Eastwood Holdings Intl.).

Kinology is closing major territory presales on David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis” off a promo screened at the AFM, Melin said.
