BERLIN — Splendid Film has picked up rights to a slew of high-profile pics, including the Arnold Schwarzenegger actioner “Black Sands” and Stuart Beattie’s monster actioner “I, Frankenstein” for German-speaking territories and the Benelux.

Directed by Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh (“Act of Valor”), “Black Sands” follows a loner who wages war against a ruthless weapons manufacturer and his private army.

Schwarzenegger also stars in Splendid’s “Last Stand.”

“I, Frankenstein” stars Aaron Eckhart and Bill Nighy in an adaptation of Kevin Grevioux’s graphic novel about Frankenstein’s creature, who has survived to the present day and finds himself in a war between humans and supernatural beings.

Splendid, the distribution arm of Cologne-based Splendid Medien, also picked up Mark Steven Johnson’s “Killing Season,” in which a former Serbian soldier seeks vengeance against a U.S. vet in the Appalachian Mountains, and which pairs John Travolta and Robert De Niro for the first time on the big screen.

In Eric Heisserer’s “Hours,” Paul Walker stars as a young father fighting to keep his newborn daughter alive in an abandoned New Orleans hospital in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Further acquisitions include Australian 1970s-set sci-fi thriller “Skylab” from producer David Lightfoot; Chinese historical actioner “Guillotines” from producers Peter Chan (“Warlords”) and Andrew Lau (“Infernal Affairs”); and Adam Wingard’s horror-thriller “Your Next.”

Splendid plans to release the films theatrically in 2012 and 2013.
