Sony has bought S. Craig Zahler’s spec script “The Big Stone Grid” with Michael De Luca on to produce.

Josh Bratman brought the project to De Luca.

UTA, who reps Zahler, had been out to several studios all week — including Paramount and Universal — but Sony pulled ahead with a bigger offer. Deal is said to be in the mid-six figures.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it’s being described as a modern crime drama in the vein of “Seven.”

Zahler has come a long way since his days as a cinematographer, working on films including “Lucia’s Dream” and “August Roads.”

One of Variety’s “Ten Writers to Watch” in 2006, Zahler has had several projects on the black list over the years.

Zahler currently has the pilot, “Men of the Dusk,” set up at Starz and is also working on the script “The Brigands of Rattleborge.”

He is repped by UTA and Caliber Media Co.
