How does an actor research the role of an unhinged man gearing up for a meteorological apocalypse?
“I didn’t prepare much at all,” said “Take Shelter” star Michael Shannon at the Nov. 2 preem of the Sony Pictures Classics pic. Since his character is “a regular person who is confronted with a situation that he has no idea how to deal with, I wanted to be in the same position as him,” he added.
Following the film, which unspooled at the 57th Street Screening Room, guests including Amy Ryan, Jake Gyllenhaal and David Koepp toasted Shannon’s hurricane of a performance at an afterparty at Rue 57.
As for weathering a real-life catastrophe, Shannon said he doesn’t like his chances. “We barely bought some water for Hurricane Irene,” quipped the thesp, who lives in Brooklyn. “If a disaster happens here, we’re all kind of screwed.”
