Sebastian Junger said Tim Hetherington, with whom he co-directed “Restrepo,” “devoted his life to documenting the human cost of war, and now he has become part of that cost.”

Junger was speaking at an annual Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America event at the Fox commissary Wednesday evening. The org had already decided to honor the Oscar-nominated “Restrepo” with its inaugural Leadership in Entertainment Award before Hetherington, and photojournalist Chris Hondros, were killed in Libya on April 20.

Paul Rieckhoff, the founder of IAVA and its executive director, praised the documentary for depicting the harsh realities facing the troops. Joining him at the event were Norman Lear, Kathy Griffin, Henry Rollins and Bradley Cooper, with former Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Pa.), the first Iraq veteran to serve in Congress and now running for attorney general of Pennsylvania, serving as emcee.
