BERLIN — Local filmmakers Oskar Roehler and Peter Ott are gearing up for two ambitious projects, with the former prepping a multigenerational tale spanning four decades and the latter set to shoot an Iraq-set thriller.

Produced by Berlin-based X Filme, Roehler’s “Die Quellen des Lebens” (The Sources of Life) will follow three generations of a family over 40 years. Cast includes Juergen Vogel (“The Wave”), Martina Gedeck (“The Baader Meinhof Complex”), Nora Tschirner (“Rabbit Without Ears”) and Matthias Schweighoefer (“Friendship”).

Regional film funder Filmstiftung North Rhine-Westphalia is backing the production with €1.6 million ($2.2 million).

In Ott’s “Die Monotheistische Zelle” (The Monotheistic Cell), Sophie Rois (“Three”) stars as a doctor who questions her life after being kidnapped by a Shi’ite group in Iraq. Produced by Colonia Media, pic picked up $685,122 from Filmstiftung NRW.
