Roadside, Participant on ‘Circumstance’

Roadside takes U.S. theatrical on Sundance fave

Marking another acquisition partnership coming out of the Sundance Film Festival, Roadside Attractions will team with Participant Media on writer-director Maryam Keshavarz’s Iranian drama “Circumstance.”

Roadside will handle U.S. theatrical distribution on the film, which Participant acquired during the fest.They’re aiming for a summer berth.

“Circumstance,” about a wealthy family in Iran struggling to contain a teen’s growing sexual rebellion, won this year’s Sundance audience award. Pic is produced by Keshavarz, with Karin Chien and Melissa M. Lee. Christina Won exec produced.

Deal was negotiated by Roadside co-prexies Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff and Participant chief operating officer Jeff Ivers.

The two companies last partnered on Oscar-winning doc “The Cove.”
