While stars Gerard Butler and Michelle Monaghan held court at the Sept. 21 preem of Relativity Media’s “Machine Gun Preacher” in L.A., it was the film’s charismatic subject, Sam Childers, who drew the biggest crowd, and security was forced to turn away at least 100 invitees from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Wearing a leather biker jacket with no sleeves, Childers made sure to thank “My Lord God Jesus Christ and all of the movie people.”

Then he got down to the business at hand, asking the sold-out crowd, “What are you going to do about the 6,000 children dying per month in Darfur (and the) thousands of children dying throughout Sudan?”
