Radar Pictures is launching sci-fi thriller “A Better World,” with Mark Palansky attached to direct the original script by Josh LeBlanc.

The moderately budgeted project centers on gateways to an otherworldly utopia that appear in major cities around the world.

A journalist investigates their true origin while city dwellers journey through the mysterious portals in search of hope.

Radar is producing and co-financing. Radar topper Ted Field and Mike Weber produce.

“I was immediately drawn in to the brave and challenging questions which are an integral part to all great works of science fiction,” Palansky said. Palansky also is attached to direct “Iron Jack” at Sony Pictures. He previously directed “Penelope,” starring Reese Witherspoon, Christina Ricci and James McAvoy for Summit.

Radar recently set up “Into Darkness,” tapping Peter Cornwell (“The Haunting in Connecticut”) to direct an adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness” as a spacebound sci-fi pic (Daily Variety, June 30).

Palansky is repped by ICM and the Gotham Group. LeBlanc is repped by ICM and Brian Spink at Realm.
