Veteran sound mixer Paul Massey has joined Sony Pictures Post Production Facilities as VP-sound director.

Based on the Sony Pictures Studios lot in Culver City, Calif., Massey handles theatrical re-recording duties. His first projects will be upcoming pics “The Amazing Spider-Man,” from Columbia, Disney’s “The Lone Ranger” and Universal’s “47 Ronin.”

He reports to Richard Branca, exec VP of post production facilities, Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Massey served as a re-recording mixer for the studio between 1996-2000.

“We are thrilled to welcome Paul back in this expanded role to Sony Pictures, his home of many years,” Branca said. “His tremendous artistry and technical expertise are true assets to the studio’s post-production business.”

Massey is a six-time Oscar nominee and three-time BAFTA winning sound mixer over the past 30 years, receiving nods for his work on “3:10 to Yuma,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” “Walk the Line,” “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,” “Air Force One,” “Legends of the Fall” and “Almost Famous.”

Sony Pictures Post Production Facilities operates five feature mixing stages, five TV mixing stages, a scoring stage, DVD audio restoration and mastering suites, three ADR stages, three Foley stages, sound editing rooms, digital audio workstations, picture editing systems and film and video transfer services.
