Newly minted Open Road Films and Universal Studios Home Entertainment have entered into a multiyear agreement under which U will handle all marketing, sales and distribution services for Blu-ray, DVD and digital platforms of Open Road’s theatrical titles.
Announcement was made Thursday by Open Road topper Tom Ortenberg and Craig Kornblau, president of USHE.
Action thriller “Killer Elite” will be the first title available on Blu-ray and DVD via the partnership.
Open Road announced a week ago that it had set a Sept. 23 berth for “Killer Elite,” starring Jason Statham, Clive Owen and Robert De Niro.
Open Road was founded as a joint venture earlier this year by AMC Entertainment and Regal Entertainment Group; Ortenberg came onboard two months ago as CEO.
Distrib, which announced its acquisition of “Killer Elite” in Cannes, will pursue mid-range-budgeted pics pegged for nationwide rollouts.
Directed by Gary McKendry, “Killer Elite” will go out nationwide supported by a reported $25 million-plus P&A fund (Daily Variety, May 11).
