“The Mechanic” L.A. premiere was abound with muscles once action star Jason Statham and his “The Expendables” co-star/director Sylvester Stallone stepped onto the red carpet Tuesday at the Arclight in Hollywood.

In the CBS Films remake of the 1972 Charles Bronson pic, Statham plays an elite assassin who takes on a protege, played by Ben Foster.

“This is a gritty thriller. It’s a very adult film. A lot of the action films I might have done before are certainly diluted in someways,” Statham said. “They’re for a younger crowd. This is definitely for a grown-up crowd.”

Helmer Simon West addressed the Internet rumor that “Con Air 2” was in the making: “I don’t know where that came from. Somebody said, ‘Why haven’t you done it?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know. Maybe it is a good idea.’ ” West added, “You just say one word like that and suddenly it’s all over the Internet. But you know, I’m not opposed to it, but no plans at the moment.”
