Mark Wahlberg in talks for Universal’s ‘Guns’

'The Fighter' thesp eyes studio adaptation of graphic novel

“The Fighter” star Mark Wahlberg is in negotiations to star in Universal’s adaptation of the graphic novel “2 Guns.”

Pic follows a DEA agent and an undercover naval intelligence officer who unwittingly investigate each other as each steals mob money.

Boom! Studios published Steven Grant’s graphic novel, which has been adapted by Blake Masters. Marc Platt (“Drive”) is producing with Boom!’s Andrew Cosby and Ross Richie.

Wahlberg’s “The Fighter” helmer David O. Russell had previously been circling the pic, which is still searching for a director. Instead, Russell is focusing on “The Silver Linings Playbook,” which Wahlberg just dropped out of, only to be replaced by Bradley Cooper.

Wahlberg next stars in the Universal thriller “Contraband” and the studio’s Seth MacFarlane-directed comedy “Ted.” Thesp is also set to topline Allen Hughes’ “Broken City” along with Russell Crowe.

Wahlberg is repped by WME and Leverage Management.
