Producers of New Line’s “Rock of Ages” have completed casting with Malin Akerman, two weeks before production starts. Akerman’s been cast in the role of a news reporter who winds up being seduced by Stacee Jaxx, portrayed by Tom Cruise.

“Rock of Ages” started firming up its cast in recent weeks with “Dancing With the Stars” champ Julianne Hough set as the female lead and Bryan Cranston, Diego Boneta, Paul Giamatti and Mary J. Blige.

Lensing begins May 19 in Miami for a June 1, 2012, release. “Hairspray” helmer Adam Shankman is directing and choreographing “Rock of Ages,” which is built around rock hits of the 1980s by Journey, Joan Jett, Bon Jovi and Pat Benatar. It focuses on a couple that meets at the Sunset Strip club Rock of Ages, falls in love and tries to stay together while living the rock life.

Musical originated in Los Angeles in 2006 before moving to Broadway.

Creator Chris D’Arienzo scripted the adaptation, and Shankman and Justin Theroux (“Tropic Thunder”) are polishing the script. Matt Weaver, Jennifer Gibgot, Scott Prisand and Garrett Grant will produce.

Akerman will be seen next in “Wanderlust” for Uni.
