LONDON — Lionsgate U.K. has snapped up theatrical distribution rights to romantic comedy “The Big Wedding,” thriller “The Paperboy” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D.”
All three were being shopped by Nu Image/Millennium Films in Cannes.
“Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D,” helmed by Carl Mazzocone, is in production, as is “The Paperboy,” an adaptation of Pete Dexter’s tome.
“Precious” helmer Lee Daniels directs the film, which toplines Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey and Sofia Vergara.
Pic, produced by Daniels and Hilary Shor (“Children of Men”), follows the tale of an idealistic reporter who returns to his Florida hometown to investigate the possibly unlawful imprisonment of a death row inmate.
“The Big Wedding,” toplining Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, Amanda Seyfried and Diane Keaton, centers around a dysfunctional divorced couple who must pretend to still be married at their adopted son’s wedding in order to please his religious birth mother.
