Lionsgate U.K. juices up ‘Lemon’ pic

It's shingle's first feature laffer

Lionsgate U.K. is set to produce its first feature comedy, based on the Brit TV character Keith Lemon.

“Keith Lemon: The Film” will be co-penned by the character creator Leigh Francis, who also created TV show “Bo’ Selecta!,” and Paul Angunawela.

In the pic, helmed by Angunawela, Keith follows his dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur, like his hero Richard Branson.

Verne Troyer will star alongside Francis and lensing is skedded to begin in Belfast on Nov. 17.

Generator Entertainment’s Mark Huffam (“Game of Thrones”), Simon Bosanquet (“Whole Lotta Sole”) and Aidan Elliott produce while Lionsgate U.K. topper Zygi Kamasa will exec produce.

Nick Manzi and Emma Berkofsky developed the pic and will also exec produce for Lionsgate U.K.

Additional financing comes from London post-house Molinaire.

“Keith Lemon” airs on commercial broadcaster ITV.

It’s the second time Lionsgate has partnered with Francis. Last Christmas Lionsgate Home Entertainment released “Keith Lemon’s Fit!,” a comedy DVD parody of fitness videos, which sold more than 100,000 units in Blighty.

At the Toronto Film Festival in September, Lionsgate U.K. announced it was co-producing Colin Firth starrer “The Railway Man.”

It’s also exec producing Mike Newell’s “Great Expectations,” which began lensing in October.
