Warner Bros. has tapped Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu to direct American West drama “The Revenant,” set up with Anonymous Content.
Studio confirmed Inarritu’s attachment Wednesday. Producers are Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin, David Kanter and Keith Redmon.
Project’s based on the novel “The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge” by Michael Punke and published in 2003. Mark L. Smith wrote the screenplay.
Novel is set in 1823 and centers on a fur trapper who’s mauled by a grizzly bear and robbed by the two men enlisted to stay with him. Fueled by anger, the trapper survives and makes his way through hundred of miles of uncharted wilderness to exact retribution.
Inarritu has directed four films: “Amores Perros,” “21 Grams,” “Babel” and “Biutiful.” He’s the first Mexican director to be nominated for the best-director Oscar, for “Babel.”
Inarritu is repped by CAA.
