IFC Films will release a pair of films from German writer-helmer Dennis Gansel, “We Are the Night” and “The Wave,” via a Gotham theatrical run and VOD.
“Night,” which bowed last year at the Sitges Fantastic Film Fest ahead of its German release, centers on a young Berlin woman taken in by three female vampires. IFC will release the pic under its IFC Midnight genre label following its upcoming U.S. bow at the Seattle Film Festival.
“The Wave” world preemed at Sundance in 2008. Based loosely on a true story, it follows a high school teacher’s ill-advised role-playing experiment in teaching his students about fascism.
Christian Becker produced both films, which will play theatrically at Brooklyn indie outpost ReRun beginning May 27. “We Are the Night” hits VOD May 25, with “The Wave” following June 8.
