NBA wives tale “Homecourt Advantage” may be headed for the bigscreen with iDeal Partners Film Fund II coming on to finance.
The fund’s hired Darren Grant (“Diary of a Mad Black Woman”) to helm and “Entourage” writer and exec producer Ally Musika to write a screenplay adaptation of the 1998 novel, penned by Rita Ewing and Crystal McCrary Anthony. Ewing’s the former wife of New York Knicks Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing, and Anthony’s the wife of former player Greg Anthony.
Ewing and Anthony are producing the film with iDeal’s Jana Edelbaum and Rachel Cohen.
Set over the course of a single season of a professional basketball league, the film is an exploration of the lives, loves and exploits of the women in the players’ lives.
“With the combination of Darren and Ally, we feel we have the right team to mine a no-holds barred, honest, sexy and highly entertaining exploration of this world,” Edelbaum said.
“Homecourt Advantage” is part of iDeal Partners Film Fund’s second production fund. Company also was a producer on “Dirty Girl,” which sold to the Weinstein Co. when it bowed at the Toronto Film Festival and will be released later this year.
Grant is represented by WME and Untitled. Musika’s repped by WME and Leverage.
