‘Iceman’ cometh with Michael Shannon in lead

Story of mob hitman Richard Kuklinski also casts Del Toro, Franco

Assassin pic “The Iceman” has marked a trio of thesps, Michael Shannon, Benicio Del Toro and James Franco, for the true story of mob killer Richard Kuklinski.

Ariel Vromen directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Morgan Land, based on Anthony Bruno’s book “The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer” and interview footage.

Shannon will play Kuklinski, the mob contract killer who carried on a normal family life while killing dozens. Del Toro portrays mobster Roy Demeo, Kuklinski’s employer; Franco his mentor, assassin Mr. Softee.

“Since the early stages of development, I had the dream of casting Michael Shannon as Kuklinski, as I believe there’s no one else that can play this part better than him,” Vromen said.

Millennium Films and Bleiberg Entertainment are behind the film, with Ehud Bleiberg producing.

Exec producers include Millennium’s Danny Dimbort, Trevor Short, Avi Lerner and Boaz Davidson; Untitled Entertainment’s Laura Rister; and Rabbit Bandini’s Miles Levy and Vince Jolivette. Millennium parent company Nu Image has worldwide sales.

Shannon is repped by CAA and Byron Wetzel Management. Del Toro is represented by Montone/Yorn, Franco by CAA and James/Levy Management.
