Anne Hathaway has landed the femme lead in Universal and Working Title’s “Les Miserables,” taking the role of Fantine opposite Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe.
Tom Hooper will helm the tuner, with William Nicholson adapting the script based on the 1862 Victor Hugo novel.
Cameron Mackintosh, who produced the original Blighty musical, will produce along with Eric Fellner, Tim Bevan and Debra Hayward of Working Title.
Jackman is set as the fugitive Jean Valjean, while Crowe will play his tormentor, Inspector Javert. With the three leads in place, pic is now in gear to begin production in February.
U has slated the pic for a Dec. 7, 2012, bow.
The casting reunites Hathaway and Jackman, who first performed together in the opening number of the 81st Academy Awards.
Hathaway, repped by CAA and Management 360, is currently filming “The Dark Knight Rises.”
