Variety has recruited Summit Entertainment alum Jean Song to serve as project manager of FlixTracker, its online development and production tracking tool designed for industry pros.

The launch of FlixTracker expands the premium research and data services offered under the Variety Insight umbrella. It comes on the heels of Variety’s acquisition of TVtracker in June (Daily Variety, June 8), which is part of the Variety Insight portfolio along with the Variety Archives.

FlixTracker allows subscribers to track the status of film, TV and digital content through all phases of a project’s development. It features a deep database of past and contempo projects searchable by production entity, distributor and creative talent, among other filters.

Song was most recently veep of production at Summit. She’s also held exec posts at 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks.

“FlixTracker is a natural progression of the Variety brand,” said Neil Stiles, prexy of Variety Group. “It is firmly in the B2B space, and works with entertainment industry professionals, helping them to make smarter decisions.”

In the first quarter of next year, Variety Insight will launch Incentives Tracker, an online tool designed to help bizzers navigate the landscape of film incentive programs.
