Film Independent has selected 30 filmmakers for the 2012 edition of its Project Involve, a program supporting helmers, producers and other industry talent from underrepresented communities. David Ansen and Joyce San Pedro will mentor the class, and Stephanie Allain, Dee Rees and Nekisa Cooper will be guest speakers.
Project Involve occurs annually for nine months. Participants create shorts and have opportunities to network and complete production-based workshops. More mentors and guests speakers are to be announced.
Participating helmers will be Andrew Ahn, Susana Casares Domingo, Aaron Celious, Rhys Ernst, Rachel Goldberg, Felipe Holguin, Erin Li, Lucas Mireles, Mason Richards and Dana Turken.
The scripters for the 2012 class are Allison Lee, Silka Luisa, Tamir Mostafa and Janine Salinas. Producers Nicco Ardin, Danni Conner, Ella Franklin, Teresa Gaviria, Mel Jones and Jesse Morrison were also selected.
Below-the-liners included will be lensers Christina Carrea, Naveen Chaubal, Amparo de Miguel Viguer and Marlena Steiner and editors Susumu Kimura, Victoria Page and Szu-Hua Wang. Wonsun Choi, Ben Rodriguez and Ellie Wen will take part on the industry track.
At the Project Involve Showcase in April, Sony Pictures Entertainment will honors one recipient with a new Diversity Fellowship, which includes year-round support.
