Dwayne Johnson is looking to “Snitch,” signing on to topline the long-in-development action/thriller with Exclusive Media Group and David Fanning producing.
Gordon Gray is also producing. Production is set to start in June.
Johnson will play the part of a working class hero who risks everything to save his son, who is falsely imprisoned. Ric Roman Waugh is on board to direct and is rewriting from a script by Justin Haythe.
Project was originally set up in 2004 by Spitfire Pictures partners Guy East and Nigel Sinclair with Haythe tapped to write “Snitch,” inspired by a PBS “Frontline” documentary about how a shift in U.S. drug laws toward federal mandatory sentencing minimums compelled the guilty to snitch on others.
Since then, Spitfire’s become a subsidiary of Exclusive Media with Sinclair as co-CEO and East as chairman of Exclusive Film Distribution.
Johnson will be seen next in “Fast Five” for Universal, opening April 29. He’s repped by CAA and attorney Harold Brown.

Cinematographer-turned-director Bruce Thierry Cheung offers an artful and affecting mix of harshly defined specifics and impressionistic storytelling in “Don’t Come Back from the Moon,” a cumulatively poignant drama about absent fathers and abandoned families in an economically devastated desert community. Structured more like a tone poem than a conventional narrative, it’s an elliptical memory play [...]
