Disney has picked up Spanish animation producer BRB Intl.’s 3D toon series “Zoobabu,” a guessing-game, for Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

“Zoobabu” will air in Disney’s new pre-school programming block, Disney Junior, said Carlos Biern, BRB Intl.’s exec VP of co-production and worldwide distribution.

Toon will also be broadcast by BBC Kids and Knowledge in Canada, and by Radio Canada for French-speaking Canadian audiences.

BRB Intl. is in advanced negotiations on “Zoobabu” for Italy, Germany and Latin America, Biern said.

A two-minute format, “Zoobabu” is an animated gameshow, an increasingly popular format in Europe, presenting pre-school tots with clues to guess what animal is inside a box.

It will broadcast this year in 3D on Catalan pubcaster TVC and on Chello Multicanal’s re-launched Canal Panda in Spain, plus on Tring in Albania — representing some of Europe’s earliest 3D TV series transmissions.

TVC has begun to run 3D capability tests.

“We started on ‘Zoobabu’ to test how to animate and write for 3D. The box and guessing game concept could translate very easily to other subjects,” Biern said.

Produced by BRB Intl., its Catalan studio Screen 21 3D, TVC and Gaul’s Image In, the 104-seg “Zoobabu” was unveiled at the Mip Junior mart in Cannes in October.

The completed series will be presented at this year’s Mip Junior.
