Paul Dano has come onboard to star alongside Robert De Niro in Focus Features’ “Another Night” with Paul Weitz directing from his own script and producing.
Project’s based on Nick Flynn’s 2004 memoir “Another Bullshit Night in Suck City” and tells the story of a young writer who takes a job at a homeless shelter in Boston — where one night he discovers his long-absent father seeking a bed.
Weitz and Andrew Miano, both of the production company Depth of Field, are producing the film with Michael Costigan through his Corduroy Films and with De Niro’s Tribeca Prods. Executive producers are Tribeca’s Jane Rosenthal and Meghan Lyvers, Caroline Baron and Depth of Field’s Kerry Kohansky.
Flynn’s tome centered on his estranged father, a delusional conman and self-proclaimed poet, and their reunion at a Boston homeless shelter. The title is taken from the father’s characterization of life as a homeless person.
“Suck City” was initially set up at Sony, then landed at Fox 2000 before Focus picked it up.
Dano’s completed work on “Cowboys and Aliens” and “Meek’s Cutoff,” and he’s attached to Endgame’s sci-fier “Looper” alongside Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Paul Weitz most recently directed “Little Fockers.”
