‘Colossus’ reboot gets fresh scribe

Masters set to rewrite Imagine pic

Blake Masters is set to rewrite Universal’s “Colossus,” produced by Brian Grazer.

Project is a remake of the 1970 sci-fi pic “Colossus: The Forbin Project,” a Cold War tale about a genius who creates a supercomputer put in charge of independently regulating the national defense of the U.S. It’s soon discovered the Russians have created a similar computer, and the two machines have begun sharing top-secret information. The Russians and Americans must work together before the computers seize control of each country’s stockpile of missiles.

It’s not clear whether the reboot will be set in the present day.

Jason Rothenberg penned an earlier draft, and Grazer produces through Imagine Entertainment. Erica Huggins and David J. Collins exec produce.

U co-prexy of production Jeff Kirschenbaum and director of development Anikah McLaren oversee the project for the studio.

Masters is working on a handful of projects including Universal’s “2 Guns,” with Vince Vaughn attached to star.
