Charlize Theron to star in ‘Prometheus’

Thesp joins Rapace, Fassbender in Ridley Scott's sci-fi pic

Exclusive: Charlize Theron has inked a deal to star in “Prometheus” for 20th Century Fox.

Theron joins Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender in the sci-fi actioner to be directed by Ridley Scott.

The project was originally thought to be an “Alien” prequel but Fox has strongly denied any tie-in to the “Alien” story. The studio named the pic “Prometheus” in January.

Scott and Damon Lindelof are doing a rewrite of a script originally penned by Jon Spaihts and based on an idea by Scott.

The studio is keeping project details under wraps. Shooting is set to begin in the spring.

Theron recently wrapped “Young Adult” for Paramount and signed on last month to play the evil queen in “Snow White and the Huntsman” for Universal.

Fox recently switched the release date for “Prometheus” from March 9, 2012, to the more high-profile summer spot of June 8 of that year.

Theron is repped by WME.
