Charles Heaphy joins First Republic Bank

City National vet will boost entertainment finance activities

City National Bank vet Charles Heaphy has joined First Republic Bank as senior managing director, in the bank’s latest move to become a serious player in entertainment financing.

Much like he did at City National, Heaphy will lead the film and television finance group for First Republic. In his new post, he’ll work with a team of bankers to provide specialized lending, deposit and wealth management services to film and television production companies and business management firms.

“Charles Heaphy is one of the most respected film finance executives in Hollywood,” said Katherine August-deWilde, president and chief operating officer of First Republic. “With Charles leading our movie and television finance team, First Republic now has greater capabilities to meet the needs of firms in the entertainment industry.”

The financial crisis of 2008 saw many banks retreating from Hollywood, and some have begun to cautiously enter or re-enter. First Republic joins SunTrust Bank, OneWest Bank and East West Bank, for example, in recent expansions into the entertainment sector.

Heaphy, who has 15 years of banking experience, served as senior VP and head of film finance for City National before joining First Republic. Prior to that, he served as an investment banker for First Chicago NBD in Los Angeles.
