Thesps attached to indie musical 'Frank or Francis'

Nearly a decade after landing an Oscar nom for his perf in 2002’s “Adaptation,” Nicolas Cage is re-teaming with Charlie Kaufman in helmer-scribe’s “Frank or Francis.”

Steve Carell and Jack Black are also attached to star in the indie musical.

Plot is under wraps but insiders describe pic as a Hollywood satire about an auteur named Frank who clashes with a blogger named Francis. Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman is producing. Production’s set to begin in January.WME is packaging the picture and casting director Jeanne McCarthy is working with Kaufman to cast two femme singing roles.

Cage has four upcoming films — Joel Schumacher’s thriller “Trespass,” Simon West’s actioner “Medallion,” Roger Donaldson’s thriller “The Hungry Rabbit Jumps” and Columbia Pictures’ comicbook pic “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.”

Carell, who’s filming Mandates’ “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World,” next stars in WB’s “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” which he produced via his Carousel Prods. Black toplined DreamWorks Animation’s “Kung Fu Panda 2,” which Kaufman had a hand in writing. He next stars in Richard Linklater’s “Bernie” and David Frankel’s “The Big Year.”
