Bryan Cranston joins ‘Rock of Ages’

'Breaking Bad' thesp in talks for Mayor role

EXCLUSIVE: Producers of New Line’s “Rock of Ages” are in talks with Bryan Cranston for the role of the mayor. The three-time Emmy winner for AMC’s “Breaking Bad” can be seen in “The Lincoln Lawyer” and the upcoming “Larry Crowne.”

“Bryan Cranston is one of my favorite actors alive, and I cannot believe that I have the great fortune to be working with him on this project,” director Adam Shankman told Variety.

“Rock of Ages” started firming up its cast in recent weeks with “Dancing With the Stars” champ Julianne Hough set as the female lead. Lensing begins May 19 in Miami for a June 1, 2012, release. Musical originated in Los Angeles in 2006 before moving to Broadway.

Creator Chris D’Arienzo scripted the adaptation, and Shankman and Justin Theroux (“Tropic Thunder”) are polishing the script. Weaver, Jennifer Gibgot and Garrett Grant will produce. Cranston is repped by UTA.
