BERLIN — Former Fox Intl. Prods. exec Gabriela Bacher has joined Berlin-based production shingle Summerstorm Entertainment as CEO, partnering with German director Marco Kreuzpaintner, and fellow CEO and producer Fabian Wolfart.

Her appointment follows the release of Matthias Schweighoefer’s hit romantic comedy “What a Man,” which opened No. 1 at the box office last week, and which Bacher produced for Fox Intl. Prods.

At Summerstorm, we are able to develop English- and German-language projects, and look at producing and co-producing pictures that entertain and strike a chord with local and international audiences,” Bacher said.

Kreuzpaintner added, “There aren’t many people in Germany that have quite the experience, taste and skills in international as well as local producing, so having worked with Gabriela on two of my last films already, I knew it would be a dream situation having her join the company.”

Summerstorm is gearing up for production of Kreuzpaintner’s London-based romantic comedy “Coming In.”

Christian Angermayer, founder and chairman of Frankfurt-based Film House Germany, which owns controlling stakes in both Summerstorm and Berlin-based Egoli Tossell Film, said Bacher’s appointment would “help speed up the development of Summerstorm both in creative and economic terms.”

Bacher, who briefly ran Studio Babelsberg Motion Pictures in 2002, worked at Fox from January 2009 to April this year. Before joining Fox, she had acted as a consultant for the studio on their German-language acquisitions, overseeing development and production on such projects as Kreuzpaintner’s 2008 fantasy thriller “Krabat,” and Frieder Wittich’s “13 Semester.” Bacher also brought Berlin-based distrib Majestic Films to Fox and brokered their distribution arrangement.
