ATO takes the ‘Fifth’

It nabs domestic rights to Hawke, Scott Thomas starrer

ATO Pictures has snapped up domestic rights to Ethan Hawke and Kristin Scott Thomas starrer “The Woman in the Fifth,” in Berlin and plans to release it this year.

Pic, helmed and adapted by by Pawel Pawlikowski, was acquired from Memento Films Intl. Pawlikowski adapted the screenplay based on Douglas Kennedy’s tome.

Psychological thriller, which also toplines Joanna Kulig, follows an American writer who who flies to Paris to be closer to his young daughter who lives there with his French ex-wife. An obscure force begins to take control of his life when he gets involved with a mysterious widow in Paris.

“Woman” was produced by Carole Scotta, Caroline Benjo and Simon Arnal-Szlovak of Haut et Court with Blighty’s Tessa Ross and Sue Bruce-Smith from Film4.

The shuttered U.K. Film Council, Coficup-Backup Films, Memento Films Intl., the Polish Film Institute and Banque Postale Image 4 all backed the pic, in co-production with SPI Poland.

ATO’s head of acquisitions Sarah Lash negotiated the deal with Memento’s Meissner, with Vicki Cherkas acting as ATO’s legal counsel.
